Mar 25, 2011  I have the latest drivers, and latest updates for the E1705 and Win XP installed, but still get the same message. Each time I connect the scanner, Windows tells me that it has found new hardware, and successfully installed it. Hello,I am searching for a driver for Scanjet 3970 to be used in Windows 7. This product is not compatible with Windows 7.

I would suggest that you download the Windows vista drivers for the scanner and later install it in the compatibility mode and check if it works.

Thanks, but it didn't work. So, I decided to use it with my XP laptop. Now, I got another problem.
I get the following error message whenever I try to scan from my scanner that is connected via usb to my Dell E1705 laptop:
'The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera. Please make sure the device is turned on and properly connected to the computer.'
I have tried two scanners, that work on other computers, and I get the same message. I have the latest drivers, and latest updates for the E1705 and Win XP installed, but still get the same message.
Each time I connect the scanner, Windows tells me that it has found new hardware, and successfully installed it. I see the device in 'Device Manager/Imagining Devices' but not in 'Scanners and Cameras' in the Control Panel. Please help

Generally with usb printer/scanners you have to install the makers software *before* connecting the device

I did. Still didn't help. And I connected the same scanner to another XP PC that didn't have the software, but had the driver, and it worked.
The problem is with the laptop. Registry?
