After this, click the Software drop-down menu, and select the latest EOS Utility updater for Mac. After agreeing to a bunch of stuff you didn’t read, go ahead and open/extract your download. Now we can get to the fun part.

When you open your download (a .dmg file), you’ll see an app called UpdateInstaller. Within this folder, you’ll find something called SDI.bundle. Just like before, open its context menu and click Show Package Contents. You’ll see yet another Contents folder that leads to a Resources folder, so click through them.

Within the Resources folder will be a file called “update.plist”. What you need to do with it is simply throw it away! Now close the mess of folders that you just opened, and run the UpdateInstaller from your desktop. It should open just like any other app installer and actually give you the full EOS Utility. Now, you can be like all the other kids on your block who use this software! Good job, buckaroo.

Conclusion

Bear in mind that I used this with my model of camera (Canon 60D), but based on what I have seen by other Canon users, the trick should work fairly well with everyone else out there. Furthermore, this seems to work on all updater versions, so you shouldn’t have a problem regardless of when you lost your CD.

Mcafee Won't Install

Because this camera is not fully compatible with Windows 7, you'll need to change the communication mode on the camera to the PTP setting. Unfortunately, the camera cannot communicate with Canon software in this mode. We'll provide a work-around for that below. Here's how to access the Communication setting:

1. Check that the camera is not connected to the computer and then set the power switch to <ON>.

1. Set [Communication] in menu option <> to [PTP].
   
2. Press the <MENU> button to switch the LCD monitor display off and then set the power switch to <OFF>

With the camera connected to your computer, turn it on. Since the Canon Software won't work, we recommend the use of the Windows Photo Gallery to transfer you images. If you haven't already done so, you may retrieve and install this program from Microsoft's download.live.com.

For the rest of your Canon software, you may access updates by clicking here. Once on our site, if your operating system is not correctly detected, please choose it using the drop-down menu. Now click on 'Software' to show the software updates.

Click on 'Digital Photo Professional 3.14.47 Updater for Windows'. Installation instructions are on the next page. Also, please download 'Digital Photo Professional 3.14.15 Updater for W..' to your desktop. You may also download and install 'Picture Style Editor 1.14.20 Updater for Windows' and 'PhotoStitch 3.1.23 Updater for Windows'.

After accepting the required disclaimer, please download the program update to your desktop.

If you have installed an older version of software, you may now double-click on the program update to install it. If not, just put the CD-ROM in your computer's optical drive and stop any installation program that starts. You may now double-click on the program updates to install them.
